This is all about V.I.P. 'Billy Lyell' a 'Very Important Puppy'....
Billy was born on May 19th 2007 in Kilwinning, and when Sondra, the daughter of Brigitte, the editor of CMDS, saw him, she fell in love with him instantly, and just had to have him. Sondra was living at home at the time, so Billy's first few months were a bit of a family affair.
He grew up to be the cutest, cleverest, cheekiest and most loving little dog with a big personality, and he truly is a joy to have around.
Then Sondra finally got her own place and the 2 of them moved there. For a couple of years Billy came over every day while his Mum was at work, and stayed with his Gran Brigitte and Papa Danny, and their lurcher 'Tammy' and cat 'Oscar', and became very much part of the CMDS team. Now that his Mum has a full time job he stays most of the week, and only goes home when Sondra is on her rest days. The first few months of his life were very busy indeed, most of that time he spent shredding everything in sight....not always with agreement of the rest of the team. :-)))) These days he is a little more choosy....thank goodness!
Billy is always busy and very friendly with everyone who comes to the house, but he gets most upset if they are trying to leave again. When you are IN....you are IN !!!!
Sadly Tammy and Oscar are not with is any longer. Billy took it very hard when they went to heaven in October 2008, and pined for them for a long time. It took him a while to get back to his cheery happy self, but still remembers them very well when their names are mentioned. Both Tammy and Oscar had not been well for a long time, and it was kinder to let them both go. Tammy was only 10, she had Alzheimers and was very confused and unwell with it. (No, we didn't know either that animals can get this dreadful illness.) Oscar was 18...but still acting like a young thing. But he had dreadful stomach problems, being sick a few times a day...every day. He was losing weight all the time, and you could see that he was in pain.
For a while now Billy has his own space in the Mag, has had since before X-mas 2007. A lot of people ask after Billy and say that his blurb is the first bit they look for when they get the new Mag. Nice to know....Billy just loves talking to everyone....
In summer of 2009, 9th June to be exact, there was another addition to Billy's family. His wee Uncle Bobby needed a new home, and he came to stay with us. Sadly he was a very timid and easily scared little thing. Thankfully caring Billy helped him along, took him a walk with him and shared his toys with him. Mind you, now that Bobby is a little more confident...the 'sharing' doesn't happen very often any longer. :-))))) But they are very close, sleep in the same bed and protect each other from anything they think might hurt them. Its really cute and touching to watch! Bobby is nearly 12 now, still very active, but does like his sleep more than running around these days! He also has developed his own likes and dislikes, and is quick enough to let you know what those are....his wee face can throw daggers at times! Its so good to see!
CMDS Team Member ‘Billy’ here...
Hiya, something very strange has happened...you all know how much I HATE cats, so guess what...I am now friends on Facebook with one, well two really. I am friends with my Uncle Irv’s cat Spook in Ireland...but then there is Psy Cho Cat in Blairgowrie, and Psy is entirely different. He actually adopted Ken and Pauline Macleod, doesn’t live with them unless he can get to their nice cosy bed first. You’ll know Ken as the Country Music presenter on Radio Tay. I always thought he was a nice guy, anyone who likes Country Music usually is, but being friends with a CAT…I don’t know. And you know what? Psy is that pushy that he got himself a JOB on the CMDS Team. I cannot believe it! What is my Gran thinking about? You want to have heard the discussions about how many munchies he’ll get paid. You know what? I get NOTHING! Still, this is his third, we’ll see if he is still here the next time round. May be I’ll go on strike! Now that’s a thought!
Anyway, for now…….here comes Psy…
“People ask why it is I always appear to slag him. The answer is quite straight forward. He just annoys me from morning to dusk. If he's not chasing me with that damn camera, he's booting me out the door or abandoning me as he swanks off on yet another holiday. He even had the cheek to say that all I ever do is eat, sleep, get fussed over and disappear when I'm bored. If that's the case I learned it all from him. How that poor woman puts up with him I don't know. It can't be easy. This month he's been ranting about Rascal Flatts being made members of the Grand Old Opry. I genuinely thought he was going to have a coronary when he heard that news. He says the Opry should only be for country singers not second-rate pop artists. If that's so, he's probably right. Rascal Flatts wouldn't know a country music song from a symphony. They might be good at what they do, but it sure ain't country music. He really does get annoyed as to what they now try to pass off as country music. The Country Music Association, every month send him two compilations CDs of the latest singles from Nashville, and he maintains that 90% of that is utter dross and totally unplayable on a country show. He's right you know. Can you believe that artists like Gene Watson, Amber Digby, Ronnie Mislap, Randy Travis and even Dolly can't get their latest music played on American country music radio stations. That's fact and it's idiotic. He blames the County Music Association for all of this. This is a professional industry body whose main aim is “to promote and advance country music and to recognise excellence in country music”. This is an organisation who regularly falls over it's self in the rush to give awards to artists such as Taylor Swift and Rascal Flatts, two acts that simply are not and never have been country. There are loads more examples, but space is limited.
He recently received an official ballot form for the election of a new Director for the CMA in their International Category. There were three names put forward for election. One from Canada, one from Australia and one British. The Canadian and Australian candidates had excellent country music pedigrees. The British candidate had, according to the bio supplied, absolutely no connection with country music.. His main claim to fame was having worked in sport in both radio and television and also with Paul O'Grady, Alan Carr and Chris Evans. Even I know these guys aren't big on the British country scene! It's just another example of how remote the CMA is from both country music and the people involved in it. He gets in a rage about the CMA. They are meant to promote country music, but he wonders if any of their leading officials knows anything about the music. They certainly aren't promoting it. They promote and reward acts, who get further and further away from country music each day. It's criminal.
Thankfully, there has been some rewarding days for him recently. He interviewed two stars steeped in country music on his shows. They were Rodney Crowell and John Jorgenson, formerly from the Desert Rose Band.
He had his work cut out for him with Rodney. He simply does not like to talk about himself and his own personal achievements. He regards himself as having an average voice and being a good songwriter. He's actually got a great voice and is a wonderful songwriter. However, he's much more forthcoming about his connection with people like Vince Gill, who he rates as one of the finest people on the planet. He also spoke highly of Chely Wright and Emmy Lou Harris among a list of other stars. Rodney and Emmlou are currently recording an album of duets which should be available early next year.
John Yorgeson is an amazing musician and who plays about a dozen different instruments. After leaving the Desert Rose band he toured with Elton John's band for six years. He plays loads of different types of music, but country is his first love. He was named the Academy of Country Music's “guitarist of the year” for three consecutive years. He's played with and recorded with people such as Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Hank Jnr, Patty Loveless and even Luciano Pavarotti! That's some line-up. He's also one of the nicest people you could hope to meet. Just like Rodney and so many others he's met over the years. He's never come across one star yet, that he didn't like. Maybe some day I'll tell you about him and Garth Brooks. They got on like a house on fire! I'm just surprised that they understand a word he says with that teuchter accent of his.
Well, that's it for the moment.
Have a great Christmas. Happy Hunting!
That was quite painless wasn’t it...hate to admit it!Suppose we are stuck with him! :-((((
Hi Friends,
Here we go again, that Psycho got his report done before me....again! Mind you, he gets help from Ken….at least I do mine all by myself!
The last couple of months have flown past again, I must be getting old! One of the best things that happened was the visit of my Uncle Irvine, who came to see us all from N/Ireland! Was great to hear all about Diesel, Spook and Tizer. We had lots of fun and laughs and walks together, and it all was over far too quick and my Uncle Irvine had to go home, but he has promised to be back in the new year. Hope he keeps he promise!
But you know what….all that excitement was too much for me. Remember I told you that I had started taking epileptic fits? I took one fit while Uncle Irvine was here, and another 2 after he left. My Mum and my Grankeep talking that I have to go back to the vet about it. I suppose I better go, these fits really are not nice, so hope they can do something about them.
Sorry to keep on about it, but remember I told you that my Gran had been clipping us with a pair of scissors after they bought a clipper, but never used it? Well….you’ll never believe this, they took us back again to the dog beauty parlour, and didn’t even tell us we were going. We just went out in the car early one morning, we thought we were going visiting….and right away we were getting cut and pruned and nails cut etc etc etc, was horrible, but you know what….its great now, just quite cold.
The last time my Gran and Papa went to their club, which is in the hall straight across the road from us, my Auntie Diana was looking after me and my wee Uncle Bobby! We really want to go with them, but are not allowed, but hey….the papergirl came for her money, Auntie Diana opened the door for her and I managed to get out and I run and run straight there, but my Auntie Diana run after me and caught me right at the hall, and then my Gran came and they took me straight home again. Shuggs! But hey, we were allowed to go back at the very end of the night, just so that we could say ’Hi’ to my Auntie Norma, who had come to the club all the way from Pitlochy, just for a night out! Also went to meet my Auntie Elaine and her pal Jean, who had come from Falkirk...saw my Auntie Eileen, and my new pal Jack was there. What a night that was, seeing them and everyone else! Brill!
We have new neighbours and they have 2 dogs...a huge Rottweiler, and a tiny Yorkie, same as us, but its even smaller than my Uncle Bobby. We haven’t played together yet, just chatted through the fence. Hopefully we can meet face to face soon, ehhhmm, might be a little difficulty that face to face bit….one being so tall, and the other being so small! Not sure how we’ll work that one out!
Me and my Gran are really struggling getting the Mag finished, my Uncle Bobby doesn’t do much anyway, he is too sleepy, so its up to us, and my Papa. So many phone-calls and e-mails to do to remind people to get their stuff. If you are reading this, and please don’t tell I said this….but you really need to send your stuff sooner than this, my Gran is getting too old to work all these nightshifts when it comes to the time to get everything ready for the printer! Our new printer is a lot more particular, so its all got to be in dead on time. Pleeeese try and remember!
That’s it for now….and for this year, hard to believe isn’t it!
Hope you’ll all have a great Christmas and a very Happy New Year,
I can’t wait, looking forward to all our prezzies and sweeties
and fun and games! Billy. X
